Dope Black Women (DBW) began in 2019 with a story as relatable as it is humorous. Picture this: Dr. Leanne Levers and Roshan Roberts, two dynamic women navigating their careers and personal lives, found themselves thrown into a WhatsApp group with 60 other women. Little did they know, this digital meet-cute would spark a global movement.
Leanne and Roshan quickly recognized that they both craved the same thing—a safe space to connect with and learn from other women who looked like them and were experiencing similar challenges. From dealing with microaggressions in the workplace to navigating health issues like PCOS and endometriosis, they needed a community where they could share, support, and grow together.
This WhatsApp group quickly evolved into something much bigger. They started to learn from the stories of other women from across the diaspora, expanding their understanding of what community truly means. Through laughter, shared experiences, and heartfelt conversations, Dope Black Women was born.
Today, DBW is a thriving, award-winning platform that empowers and connects over 30,000 Black women globally, proving that even the simplest beginnings can lead to something extraordinary.

Future plans

We are continually expanding our efforts to provide even more support and resources to our community. Our future plans are focused on expanding our impact and
empowering Black women globally.

We will organise and deliver intimate retreats that focus on supporting the financial, physical, and mental wellness of Black women. These retreats will be designed to empower participants and foster personal growth.

We will offer vulnerable women six months of access to therapy. This initiative aims to ensure that women in need receive crucial mental health support and can navigate their personal challenges more effectively.

We plan to grow our WhatsApp community group to address and discover key concerns for Black women outside of the UK and Caribbean. This expansion will help us build a global network of support and solidarity, ensuring that more women can connect and share resources.

We will extend our initiatives and presence by launching our operations and programs in the US. This expansion will help us reach and support a larger audience, furthering our goal of empowering Black women worldwide.
